Bad luck!

What happens when you play in an area full of trees, plants, mud, stones, stones & more stones & no lights (you know, an area your mom always told you to avoid)?
Well, this is what happens:

Wat gebeurt er als je speelt in een gebied vól met bomen, planten, modder, stenen, stenen & nog meer stenen & geen licht (je weet wel, een plek waarvan je moeder altijd zegt dat je niet mag spelen)?
Nou dan gebeurt er dit:

He tripped over a huge stone, thought he got back into balance but didn´t see the following big stone and fell on his face & elbow. A lot of blood and a dislocated elbow. So we ended up in hospital, the repositioning of the elbow didn´t work out the way it had to & so he needed a small surgery to put it back in the right spot. Luckily his face was ok, nothing broken, just some grazes.
He has to use the sling for 3 weeks & will need to do fysiotherapy.
First he found it all very interesting until he realized that it also meant no running, no soccer, no tennis, etc. And he was all sad..
Hij struikelde over een grote steen, hervond z´n evenwicht maar zag de volgende grote steen niet. Viel weer en dit keer kon hij zijn evenwicht niet meer bewaren en viel op z´n gezicht en op z´n elleboog. Veel bloed en een elleboog uit de kom. En zo gingen we op zaterdagavond dus naar het ziekenhuis. Het lukte niet om de elleboog weer goed te krijgen en er volgde een kleine operatie. Gelukkig was er in zijn gezicht niks gebroken, alleen wat schaafwonden. Z´n arm zit nu half in het gips (ter ondersteuning) en hij moet de komende 3 weken met de arm in een mitella lopen, daarna nog fysiotherapie...
Hij vond het natuurlijk bere-interessant, maar al gauw realiseerde hij zich dat hij ook niet kon rennen, voetballen tennissen, enz. En dat maakte hem erg verdrietig...

We'll be off for the next week or so, off to this beautiful island in the northeast of Brazil: Fernando de Noronha.
After that we'll continue on to Porto de Galinhas, also northeast, but on the mainland of Brazil:



And we'll be staying in this hotel, quite relaxing, isn't it?



So we'll 'see' you after the holidays!!

Anyway, we had a wonderful day & will always remember the special ambiance full of love & friendship! Sure not going to wait till a 200 year event...!

Our family turnt 100 years together. Reason enough for a small party!

We're having a lunch on Sunday for our friends and all the kids will have their own party (with DJ and some monitors) in the 'salão de festas' (the party room of the compound).
As you can imagine, preparartions are already in full bloom!

I went to the market this morning and bought some beautiful zinnias and dahlias.
The white flowers will go into 10 small round vases on the tables.

Of course I had to stock up on wine & champagne, and some more healthy items like grapes, strawberries, figs, goat cheese, stoneleeks, tomatoes & endives.

The tables will look fresh & colourful with these red & white dot table cloths and white & red dot napkins.

50 years young!

A long weekend at the beach (Frade, about 200 km south of Rio de Janeiro), a 'ótimo' place to turn 50...

And when we arrived home, our neighbours and friend prepared a surprise party, including a real Dutch 'Abraham'!

Een lang weeked aan het strand (Frade, ongeveer 200 km ten zuiden van Rio de Janeiro), een 'ótimo' plek om 50 te worden...

En toen we thuiskwamen, hadden buren en vrienden een verrassingsfeestje georganiseerd, inclusief de échte nederlandse Abraham (toch blijkbaar een heel erg nederlandse traditie)!

A dream come true... Chile!

At the moment we`re enjoying a beautiful trip to Chili.

We started a week ago in the Valle the Colchagua, one of the major wines areas of Chile, we rented a car and stayed in the Santa Cruz Plaza hotel. From there we made a couple of tours around the area where we did a horseback ride through a vineyard (together with the Chilean champion jumping), went canoeing in the river while watching the black swans, we tasted a lot of wines, had too much food but enjoyed it a whole lot!! Luggage is now filled with bottles of wine...

Then we flew up north to the Atacama desert (http://www.tierraatacama.com/); a completely different scenery, but oh so beautiful. Sometimes it looked like the moon, then it changed into a kind of Death Valley and we also floated in a salt lake (like the Death Sea). In the meanwhile, we got up at 4.30 am to go and see the geysers of the El Tatio vulcano. On our way back to San Pedro de Atacama, we saw wildlife, we visited a very small village where we gotta taste llama meat! What an experience!

Of to Santiago de Chile now for the more cultural (and probably shopping) part of the trip!

Op dit moment genieten we volop van onze reis door Chili.

Een week geleden startten we in de Valle de Colchagua, een van de grootste wijngebieden van Chili. We huurden een auto en verbleven in het Santa Cruz Plaza hotel van waaruit we allerlei toers maakten. We hebben paardgereden door een wijngaard (onder leiding van de Chileens kampioen springen), hebben gekanood (?) en de zwarte zwanen gezien, we hebben veel wijn geproefd, teveel gegeten, maar hebben er enorm van genoten! De koffers zitten vol met flessen wijn natuurlijk...

Daarna zijn we naar het noorden gevlogen naar de Atacama woestijn (http://www.tierraatacama.com/): een compleet ander landschap, maar oh zo mooi; het ene moment leek het op de maan, dan had het weer meer weg van Death Valley, dan weer zwommen we in een zoutmeer (zoals de Dode Zee). Ondertussen moesten we om half 5 op om naar de geisers van de El Tatio vulkaan te bezoeken. Op de terugweg daarvan zagen we allerlei mooie dieren en vogels (lama`s, vicuñas, enz.) en stopten we in een klein dorpje om het lama-vlees te proeven. Wat een ervaring!

En nu op naar Santiago de Chile voor het meer culturele (en waarschijnlijk winkel) gedeelte van onze reis!
